Human Resources hosts the premiere of “Whole Halves,” a new video by LA-based artists Eve Fowler and Anna Sew Hoy. The program begins at 8pm, featuring a screening of Whole Halves as well as additional video projects created by the artists who assisted in the making of Whole Halves.
These artists include: Math Bass, Mariah Garnett, Pearl C. Hsiung, Dawn Kasper, Visperd Madad-Doust, Lucas Michael, and Marty Windahl.
Experimental music ensemble, LA Fog, which provided the soundtrack to Whole Halves, performs live at the premiere event.
Whole Halves portrays various characters engaging in magic, mess and peaceful mayhem, organized loosely around a sausage-eating ritual. It is the first video created by Fowler and Sew Hoy’s art collaborative project called, Two Serious Ladies. Founded three years ago, Two Serious Ladies has experimented at the edges of photography and sculpture. Embracing an aesthetic of chaotic feminism, the pair wrestles the clutter of daily life into submission, gleaning new messages and meanings from the hidden underbellies of everyday objects. Using a combination of photographic materials, Neanderthal technologies, and live light actions, Fowler and Sew Hoy reject the reason found in illumination, opting instead for open, interpretive possibilities for visual understanding. Two Serious Ladies recently received a Durfee Foundation grant in support of their work.
